This week Matthew can dream. His brain activity and brain waves are developed enough that he can dream. He has different sleep cycles that include REM or rapid eye movement, which is the cycle of sleep where dreams occur. Matthew is supposed to be somewhere around 2 1/2 - 3 lbs or so now and should be around 16+ inches long. My growing boy! He's added blinking to his new list of tricks, as well as coughing, sucking, and better breathing. If born now, he'd have a 90% chance of survival without any neurological effects. And the longer he stays in my belly to term, the better his odds. I must say, that the ticker baby to the right has gotten much bigger too!
The weekend was fun, but very busy. Had a baseball game Thursday and Friday night, Saturday was the alumni game and dinner with friends, then Sunday was Raliegh for my niece and nephew's 5th b day and then to Williamston for the coaches dinner.
When we got to the coaches dinner Sunday evening, I just happened to look down at my feet and they were swollen!! I guess the combination of how hot it was this weekend plus being on my feet and not resting much led to that. It was 2+ pitting edema in my ankles ya'll! Crazy. So, Monday it was still about 1+ and when I got to work, I got some Ted hose (aka compression socks) and put those on. I wore them all day, and also all day yesterday at work. It worked! I got through 2 days of work with no edema. Thank goodness. I think that will be the key thing to do from now on.
So today, I go and pick my mom up from the airport and we are headed to see my grandma this afternoon. I'm pretty excited to have her here. I usually only get 1 day with her when she comes down. It's been a long time that we've spent more than 1 day together. Last time I saw her was just after Christmas - I had this tiny bloated bump thing going on. So, my belly looks alot different now!
Tomorrow, I'm meeting with the weekend supervisor for MICU - my last step to getting this job! It's looking good ya'll - the last email I got from this weekend supervisor was "I'm anxious to meet you, and I know you are ready to meet as well to go ahead and get things going." Yes. One of my co-workers who worked up there for 7 years put in a good word for me too. I also talked to my current manager and gave her a heads up that I interviewed and that a offer looks promising. She said she wouldn't not hold me any more than 4 weeks. :) Good news. The quicker I can get up there, the better. I'm trying to get my orientation done before I go out for maternity leave. PLUS - it will be nice only having to work 2 days a week toward the end of this pregnacy too - I'm sure I'll need my rest and I'm sure I'll have plenty of nesting to do. ;)
Friday is graduation! I will "officially" have my degree at 1030am Friday morning. But, the departmental commencement is not till Friday night. The funny part is, I know more people in the nurse anethesist concentration than nursing ed! But, that is because I work with them and see them all the time. So, it'll be fun seeing them graduate as well.
I'll post some pics and update and the week goes. Should be a fun week!
