My checkup today went fine. My blood pressure was fine (122/72), and my urine was still fine (some trace protein, but that has been there for a while - no worries). I've now gained 15 lbs :/ Not sure how I feel about this. Yes, 15lbs over a 31-32 week period is good...but it's all been put on since 17 weeks (once I stopped throwing up!). So that's a little scary. I saw a new doctor today that I hadn't seen before. I really liked her alot. She's a black lady doctor - I don't know that much about her. She's been with the practice for a few years, but I don't really have any interaction with her at work, so I don't know her very well. But anyway, she didn't seemed rushed (unlike some of the other doctors) and she didn't mind answering my questions and all that. I liked her. So, I'm going to see her again when I go back in 2 weeks. We had another discussion about induction; that is a battle I am NOT going to win. She said that would not induce me until I'm a week over. I made sure she was aware that the date of conception was not in question and that we tend to have large babies in my family. She said that was ok and that my body will make a baby that I can get out - most people do. And a week will not make that much of a difference in weight size of him, so I shouldn't worry. So, I'll try to quit stressing over it. Anyway, his heart rate was 150 and (of course) he and/or my fundal height (top of my uterus) was measuring 33 weeks.
After my appointment, I headed to the hosptial (on my day off mind you!), to attend the going away party/baby shower my unit threw for me. They had ordered pizza from Dominos, had homemade spegetti (yum!) and a made from scratch carrot cake with homemade cream cheese icing (yum!), some brownies (with chocolate candy bars in it - yum!), salad, cookies, drinks, and a strawberry shortcake truffle thing. It was very good. We got some good stuff too - gift cards, a few sleepers and sleeper gowns, wipes, clothes (more...this kid will not have to wear the same thing twice I think), towels and washclothes, and baby wash/lotion (more....). Tomorrow is my last day in PACU. There are a few people who are going to bring a gift tomorrow, so I'll have a few other things coming apparently.
I've got a few things, mostly dupicates, that I've got to take back to Walmart and BRU sometime next week. Between that and all the gift cards, we will not have a problem getting the last few things that we need! We've been so lucky and blessed to have wonderful family and friends to get us started with all that we need for this baby!
So, last day in PACU tomorrow....first day....well night in MICU Sunday night and Monday night. We've got a lamaze class on Saturday! It's ALL day, from 8am to 3:30pm. Oh yeah. We get an hour for lunch. I can't imagine what we will be doing for that long. That's ALOT of breathing. ;)
Oh you'll be busy during that class. I have never taken a lamaze class but I am going to guess that they will go into the entire labor process...when to go to the hospital, what to do at home after labor has started, what to put in your bag, the different types of pain medication, and then of course all the breathing and other ways to cope (focal points, etc), how to push, you will probably watch a truly lovely video of a woman giving birth...and they might even go into some basic baby care? Like diaper changing and swaddling? It will be FUN!!! And exciting!
